Our pastor is preaching a sermon series called "Desperation". It features stories of Bible characters who, at a desperate moment in their lives, encountered Jesus. We see one of these stories, one of these people, in the 9th chapter of the Gospel of John.
March 14, 2023 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, March 14.
The colors are exploding. The temperatures are rising. The Earth is coming back to life again. Signs that Spring is just around the corner. Another sign? Baseball's Spring Training has begun! March 14 was the first day of Spring Training in 1954, and in the first inning of the first game, a brand-new player walked to the plate. He was 20 years old, his name was Henry Louis Aaron... and he hit the ball out of the park.
March 13, 2023 - Several years ago we decided to motor up to Burlington, North Carolina, to visit our son, Doug, during the Christmas season. It is a long trip of fourteen or fifteen hours. Clara and I enjoyed several days of visiting with Doug and our grandchildren. For some reason, I decided to begin our return trip to East Texas on New Years Eve, late in the afternoon. Big mistake.
TPWD Considers Temporarily Reopening Fairfield Lake State Park
March 10, 2023 — Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and its Commission welcome the support expressed by legislators during a Thursday hearing of the House Committee on Culture, Recreation, and Tourism. Committee members reiterated their desire to continue communication with TPWD, Vistra Corp. and Todd Interests to save Fairfield Lake State Park.

In 1968, Lyndon Johnson was president, the Vietnam War was raging, Andy Griffith was the #1 TV show, the Beatles were still together, and Sandy Yarborough started working at First Baptist Church of Center, Texas. This Sunday, during our 10:15 worship service, we’ll celebrate Sandy’s 55th anniversary as a secretary on our church staff.
March 9, 2023 - Good Morning. It’s Thursday, March 9.
On this day, last year, I received a message from relatives in Maryland. My youngest sister had passed away. The news was not unexpected, but you're never fully prepared for that message. On that day I posted this devotion. I hope it will speak to you on this day.
Today my subject is family. During our lives we may have several families - spouses, children, second marriages, step kids, grand kids, etc. But my focus this morning is on the family we grew up with - mom, dad, brothers, sisters.
