David's Daily Devotion for Aug. 15

August 15, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, August 15.

On this day in 1935, Will Rogers was killed in a plane crash in Alaska, along with famed Texas aviator Wiley Post. Rogers was a writer, with over 4000 national newspaper columns to his credit, an actor in over 70 movies and one of the highest paid Hollywood stars, a vaudeville performer, a humorist, and a world traveler, circling the globe three times. What a life!

David's Daily Devotion for Aug. 12

August 12, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, August 12.

I've adjusted the Daily Devotion schedule from Monday - Saturday to Monday - Friday. Sunday, for ministers, is the busiest day of the week, so the new schedule gives me a "day of rest" each Saturday. Some people call Saturday the "Sabbath" - a word that literally means "rest". We see this word in the New Testament with the Greek Sabato, in Spanish with Sabado, and in Hebrew with Shabbat.

David's Daily Devotion for Aug. 11

August 11, 2022 - Good Morning!  It’s Thursday, August 11.

Today is Marilyn von Savant’s birthday!  Doesn’t ring a bell? Well, she’s none other than the smartest person in the world, holding the record for the highest IQ of 228 (the average guy scores 100). Pretty impressive! Plus, her name “savant” means “brilliant person.”  What are the odds?

David’s Daily Devotion for Aug. 10

August 10, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, August 10.

Today, as a new school year begins - there is a call to prayer.

Today, as our schools still strive to adapt to the new normal - there is a call to prayer.

Today, as the images and emotions of Uvalde are still fresh in our minds and hearts - there is a call to prayer.

And today, as we marvel at the determination and dedication of our educators - there is a call to prayer.

David's Daily Devotion for Aug. 9

August 9, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, August 9.

Have you ever prayed over a thing or a place? This morning, my pastor and I have been invited by our high school principal to join him on campus to pray over the classrooms, the gym, the band hall, the cafeteria. On Wednesday evenings, our choir members, following rehearsal, often move out into our sanctuary to place their hands on the pews and pray. In the past I’ve been invited to housewarmings where all the guests were invited to pray over each room.

David’s Daily Devotion for Aug. 4

August 4, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, August 4.

This afternoon, our church will feed the freshmen at Fish Camp! Every year, the week before classes start, the new ninth-graders are invited to an orientation called Fish Camp, and we get the opportunity to fill them up with pizza, cold drinks, and encouragement. When you’re “the new kid on the block” you can use all the encouragement you can get.
